As an active member of the community, Wess has participated and lead local dive club(s) and environmental activities since his arrival to St. Croix. Wess participated in the precursory response to the Invasive Lionfish in 2009 before the conception of C.O.R.E. To assist with this issue, Wess was one of the original members of the C.O.R.E. Foundation’s Caribbean Lionfish Response Program established in October of 2009.
Continuing to be a leader in environmental education and activities in the community, Wess was a great addition to the C.O.R.E. Foundation staff as Dive Director for St. Croix, USVI. At the time Wess joined C.O.R.E., all training and education outreach was handled by the same Director. With the growth of the Caribbean Lionfish Response Program it was evident that this was a heavy workload and that Education Outreach and Dive Coordination should be individual positions.
Although Wess was outstanding at both positions, it was clear the position should be split. Fortunately for his sanity he was able to share off the E&O duties to the inspirational Nadija Packauskas in December of 2013. This allowed him to focus more of his time on coordinating dives, conducting C.O.R.E. training of various levels, and handling St. Croix’s Lionfish Sighting Response Line.
“We at the C.O.R.E. Foundation are blessed to have Wess Tester as such an active member and great inspiration to the young and old of the Caribbean. Thank you Wess for your great work!!”
