The CORE Foundation inspires communities to be better stewards of the environment through marine awareness education and hands on coastal programs. Vision Our vision is that the values and benefits of the marine ecosystems that make up the Caribbean are understood, treasured and preserved by all people and that The CORE Foundation has the resources to ensure the continuation of such benefits. Members As a member-based organization, we seek to work and collaborate with a diversity of people dedicated to marine stewardship, including: managers, scientists, educators, volunteers and non-government environmental staff members. |
Goals
We achieve our mission and vision through the pursuit of special projects and activities designed to meet the following goals: • Ensure the longevity of our marine ecosystems by implementing the Caribbean Lionfish Response Program through long term partnerships with all territories and countries. • Implement an extensive outreach education and public awareness program that will heighten the understanding of marine ecosystems with under-developed countries as well as developed. • Improve the practice of marine stewardship by fostering the development, delivery and application of new cutting-edge research programs, specifically designed to preserve underwater environments for future generations. • Partner with The Caribbean Alliance to form a cohesive marine management and research network for the Caribbean. • Engage the next generation of marine stewards through education, experiential and professional development opportunities. |
Joseph Gulli, Late Founder of The CORE Foundation, dedicated the last years of his life to educating, those concerned, about his vision for pro-active lion fish management in the Caribbean. His compassion and kind and caring nature for both people and the environment was clearly demonstrated in his willingness to offer a helping hand wherever needed.
Because of Joe's generosity with time and means, Joe was able to see the need in the Caribbean and pursue the vision he saw before him. His vision and dedication has made CORE recognized by key natural resource managing agencies and non-governmental user groups, as one of the largest invasive lionfish management program’s in the Caribbean.
Whether diving in the Caribbean or hiking in the High Sierras, Joe's camera was always by his side ready to capture the beauty of nature. His eye for detail would allow him to wait patiently for just the right moment to snap that perfect sunset.
Over the years, Joe played drums with a variety of bands including some in the Caribbean. Equally comfortable behind one drum set or two, he was an exceptional drummer earning him the nick name, "Double Thunder".
Joe's passion to do the very best possible made him an exceptional general contractor consultant, concrete specialist and computer draftsman. Everything Joe did was done with zeal, every detail scrutinized. His leadership qualities allowed him to build the CORE Foundation and leave a legacy in the Caribbean for years to come.
We can sum up Joe's life in the following quote from Theodore Roosevelt:
"The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotion, spends himself in a worthy cause; who knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who have never tasted victory or defeat. "
