CORE's Invasive Lionfish Sighting Network Growth
Since 2009, the CORE Foundation has provided and maintained an Invasive Lionfish Sighting Hotline throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 2010, the U.S. National Park St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands provided CORE Educational Postcards at visitor centers. This was done to educate as well as encourage visitors to report lionfish sightings. In 2014, the CORE Foundation's Invasive Lionfish Sighting Network was listed as the sighting network for the 2014 U.S. Virgin Islands Lionfish Management Plan.
Currently, DPNR's Fish and Wildlife division has taken over data collection of lionfish sightings with their Recreational Fishing Report Forms. We continue to work closely with the department to ensure as much data is collected and reported accurately within the territory, allowing us to have a clear understanding of the magnitude of the lionfish invasion.

Invasive Lionfish Sighting Network
CORE's Invasive Lionfish Sighting Network is made up of several communication systems. Sighting Hotlines, regional emails, Facebook pages and an Invasive Lionfish Sighting Webpage were integrated to assist with Invasive Lionfish Management. The integration of these communication systems increased invasive lionfish reports and provided valuable data on densities and distribution. In turn, the integrated sighting network has increased extractions as well as decreased time between sighting and extraction. Tabulation of sighting and extraction data has increased the focus of invasive lionfish management and continues to assist various ongoing studies.
Reported lionfish data is available by request through the Fish and Wildlife department at DPNR.
