Thanks to C.O.R.E. members Michelle Griffith for assisting and Michael Funk for supplying the dissection tools.
C.O.R.E. volunteers took some time to present some history of the lionfish in the Caribbean to a high school class at Central High School in St Croix. We also were able to bring some de-spined lionfish for a dissection. We would like to thank the teacher, Ms Nora Santana for giving us this opportunity to instruct the students. We would also like to thank the students that participated. Jonathan Joseph, Kaylah Browne, Eryk Simon and Joshua Santiago. It was a great experience for us at C.O.R.E. as well as the students. Thanks to C.O.R.E. members Michelle Griffith for assisting and Michael Funk for supplying the dissection tools. We also took some time at the end of the class for one student who wanted to see how to filet a lionfish!

Contact your STT Dive Coordinator Rick - [email protected] We hope everyone had a wonderful and productive Earth Day! On St. John Leslie Charpentier (STJ Dive Coordinator), John Westgard, Barb Crites, Jason Quetel (Chief of Field Ops), and Frank Cummings (STJ E&O Coordinator) all contributed to making this a successful and educational booth at the Earth Day Fair. On St. Croix volunteers from CORE and CRABBS as well as local cleaners cleaned two segments, bottom of The Beast to CB and CB to Rust Op Twist. Total count was 62 bags of trash and 7 bags of cans between the 15 people who participated!
Ever wondered what it's like to work with a non-profit foundation for a week? Local high school seniors Natasha and Louis were given the chance to find out just how much fun we have at CORE during their Senior Service Project! Huge thanks to Sts. Peter and Paul School for providing us with these awesome kids, and Aqua Action Dive Center for providing the use of their classroom! During our senior service project week I worked with the CORE Foundation. Throughout the week I learned about web design and organization. We got to interact with dive professionals at different dive shops around the island, receiving feedback, positive and some negative from the lionfish project. This week at CORE I learned how to help and encourage others to help keep the ocean clean. -Natasha Do you or your students want to volunteer with CORE? Just email us for more info!
